ASP/VB/JavaScript – trial project for professional developer Introduction ============ We are seeking a professional developer with a Microsoft technologies background, to develop a small application using our established software architecture. This is a trial project with the potential of on-going work. Skill Set Required ================== We need an experienced developer skilled in: • ASP 2.0 • Client-side JavaScript • Visual Basic 6 • SQL • SQL Server 2000 The Application =============== A small web-based data entry and reporting application to replace an existing flat file spreadsheet. There are several reference forms plus a main data capture form. Reporting will be via Office Web Component (OWC) pivots. To Be Provided ============== We will provide the following: • A normalised SQL Server 2000 database for the application • A base application code stock comprising: o Base VB6 classes for business logic o Classic .asp scripts for presentation logic o A JavaScript library for user interaction o OWC reporting pivot & spreadsheet ‘hooks’ o Graphic images for the application • A requirements specification including o Menu structure o Prototype form design • Sample data The supplied code stock provides the application template. The development requires: forms, a menu, minimal business logic and SQL queries to support the Pivot reports. How to Work =========== Prior to code development, familiarisation with our application architecture is required. Our lead developer will answer technical questions and provide limited support during the familiarisation phase. The development must adopt our architectural patterns, present the ‘house style’ user interface and utilise provided code libraries. We seek an experienced developer willing and able to work under the discipline of a ‘code template’ model. If you are a ‘lone coding hero’ rather than a ‘team player’, then this is not for you. You must be willing to learn and re-use the existing toolset before striking out to create more code. We have budgeted for some familiarisation effort. After familiarisation, a project plan with key tasks and milestones will be developed and agreed. You will be expected to meet any jointly agreed deadlines. Deliverables ============ The entire developed code stock is to be supplied. Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) will be assigned to us. A non-disclosure- agreement (NDA) is required. Code developed will be reviewed and checked for ‘conformity’. A protocol for bug fixing is to be agreed. Future Work =========== This project is an experiment. We want to find a ‘compatible’ developer to build a long term relationship. This project is just a small bounded ‘trial’. Our criteria for success include: technical ability, project management skills, reliability, communication, honesty, openness and fair value for money. We’ll all know early in the project whether we ‘click’. In return for learning our architecture and accepting our working methods, we offer the potential to get involved with the COM -> .NET migration of our core products plus further application developments. What We Don’t Want ================== If you are a salesperson for an outsourcing company, please DO NOT BID. We have tried this before and it simply doesn’t work for us. We are two developers seeking a direct relationship with another developer. We are not interested in anonymous coders hidden behind a project management façade.
