Hello, I have a startup script that runs on the google compute engine platform. The problem is this startup script modifies the root password when the script runs. If the user has changed the root password the next time the server restarts it reverts the root password. I need to find some way to make the startup script only run on the first boot or delete itself after it runs. I think the startup script can be removed after it runs using the proper GCE CLI commands. The script is very basic and needs to run on CentOS and Ubuntu. The startup script disables SELinux on centos systems. Enables password authentication and allows direct root login and then sets the root password. That is all it does.
