Contest Brief

The goal of this challenge is to create a graphic to be used by the Program Integration Branch. The graphic should convey the mission statement of the branch which is to:
• INTEGRATE the Human System with Programs,
• EMPOWER programmatic risk-informed decision making, and
• ADVANCE human presence in space.

You may choose to include the above emphasized words in the mission statement. The graphic will be used in multiple ways at NASA. A small version of the graphic may be used in the top corner of documents, a larger version could be used on the title page of presentation materials, or the graphic may be used on other products developed by the NASA team.

Background
At NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) the Program Integration Branch supports the Human Health and Performance Directorate in management and development of the requirements for humans to live and work in space. In doing so we provide the agency expertise for Human System Integration or integration of the human with the hardware and the software for human spaceflight programs including the Commercial Crew Program, the Orion Program, Gateway Program, space suit development, and future Lunar and other Exploration Programs. We provide the systems engineering and integration to the programs for our human health and performance requirements including all lifecycle phases from concept of operations to design development and integrated testing, to verification, validation and transitioning to operations. We support the Human Research Program Exploration Medical Capability Element and work to bring all human spaceflight research data to the table to better manage the risk to the human. In doing so, we enable and empower the programs to make risk-informed decisions and thereby advance human presence farther into space.

Graphic Requirements:
• Both a color version and black/white version are required.
• Source File Requirements: All original vector source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered AI or EPS files.

One week left to go in the contest! If you are planning to submit a design please do it soon so that we can have time to provide feedback before the end. And to be clear we are looking for a logo/patch design for the Program Integration Branch. The patch logo should include the name of the branch, as well as incorporate the three key words from the mission statement (integrate, empower, advance). It should represent the mission statement and include a human element. Please ensure the human element is androgynous (does not look too much like a man or a woman as we want humans represented in general). It should also include an element of 6 for the 6 domains of human systems integration. Think mission patch as you are designing and perhaps look at some of the NASA or ISS mission patches for inspiration. Also do not be too specific about spacecrafts or stations (i.e. please don't use the ISS). We support many programs and missions. Hope this helps everyone! Thanks for your interest!

All please do not be afraid of color. :) Traditional navy is good and you can use up to 6 colors, but you don't have to. All entries are trending towards the same colors which does not give us much variation in choices. Thanks!

Thats a lot of information, but still quite vague on the requirement. I think its the words you use to describe what you are looking for.... they are describing the project, not the requirement. The brochure material is fine to better understand the kind of design that is needed. But the actual requirement itself is very vague. Are you looking for an illustration that is more or less like going to act as a logo, but not really signifying ownership? Examples would be the 3 triangular arrows of recycling symbol, the "+" for medical, the symbol of radiation, etc. Or are you looking for 6 different illustrations with common elements (like a set of icons belonging to the same theme, the buttons of a website, etc), used each to symbolize human factors, Operations, maintainability, etc?

Hi Sony, thanks for the question. Don't know if you saw this response below: For all, we would like the logo to represent the human aspect in some way, and element of 6 and perhaps a V. Integration is key for the Program Integration Branch. We would also like the logo to represent the mission statement. Integrate, Empower, and Advance are key words we would also prefer to include. Again we are trying to give you lots of freedom and this is a collaborative approach to getting a great design! Good luck to all! Keep the ideas coming!
