I wrote a children's book with my son. Looking for an illustrator. Contest is for one page. Subsequent contract would be for the whole book (~10 pages). I'll upload some of the copy and direction shortly.
UPDATE: OK, so the concept of the book is that people are walking (on a leash) all sorts of exotic/unique animals. Animals that you'd a) never have as a pet and b) are so unusual they kids will may have never heard of them. So, there's a certainly a humor aspect (I mean, who'd walk a triceratops) but there's also an educational piece (diversity of nature/there's more than dogs and cats in this world). An important aspect here is scale, if the animals are large the kids/leash are small. We want them to understand how big or small these creatures were/are.
Other pages in the full book will include:
May I pet your puffin?
May I pet your narwhal?
May I pet your blobfish?
May I pet your okapi?
You get the idea.
The setup for each page is the animal is on a leash with some sort of collar. The leash goes off the page such that you can't see the owner/person that is walking them. Also constant on each page is one 9yr old boy (Vincent) and one 7 yr old girl (Lexi). Boy is blonde/blue eyed, girl is strawberry blonde/hazel eyed. They will have different expressions, depending on the animal. In addition, on each page either Vince or Lexi is is saying "May I pet your...?" The background settings will be different and can contribute to the humor aspect, for example, in this triceratops page, the setting/background is the cretaceous period, which is absurd because there were no humans then and how would they get there and why is there a sidewalk there (see uploaded document)?
Have fun with this, exercise some creative liberties from within the guidelines outlined here. Check out the attached file for more detail!!! Good luck.
